The Director General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria SMEDAN Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda has described Kano state as a shining example of an idea of partnership in the development of the Industrial Development Centres (IDCs). Receiving the report on the conversion of Tiga IDC to a world class leather cluster, submitted by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in his office recently, Dr. Radda lauded the state government's effort for coming up with such a great idea which will help the present administration actualize its dream of creating jobs. He stated that Kano has been a major leather producing state in the country as such he was not surprised with the laudable initiative.
The Director General noted that the agency would encourage states with IDCs to emulate Kano state adding that if every state will come up with such idea it will give a good mileage to the present administration. He assured that the agency would support the project to its logical conclusion. He said the agency was working hard to revive the 23 industrial Development Centers across the country. He said it was important the federal government supports the Kano State Government, as these centers would surely go a long way in improving the lives of Nigerians.
Earlier the Kano state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry Alhaji Ahmed Rabiu Bako congratulated the Director General on his appointment. He praised his efforts in sustaining the good works of his predecessor in the development of MSMEs in the country.
The commissioner illustrated how the IDC will be transformed into the world class leather cluster park and training center in order to create job for the youth which is part of the mandate of the Agency. He further stated the market potentials, processes, description of finished goods, proposed machineries and equipment. He also made a description of the land and sources of funds, and how it would be shared between the federal and state governments.
