Why is this important?
At SMEDAN, we believe in nurturing small businesses for growth and ensuring that this growth is sustainable. Achieving this growth is not solely through organising training and workshops; taking concrete actions is essential. We believe that by gradually making certain facilities available to small businesses, we can achieve this goal.
Recognising that a major challenge for many fashion designers is the inaccessibility to tailoring equipment and irregular power supply, SMEDAN recently launched a new facility at the SMEDAN Headquarters called the Garment and Textile Workshop.
The Initiative
The Garment and Textile Workshop provides a space where tailors from different parts of the city can utilise highly functional equipment at very affordable costs. Currently, there are about 150 different types of sewing machines available at the Tailoring Hub. Since its launch, over 30 individuals from various parts of Abuja, and even some from nearby states, have taken advantage of this opportunity.
With plans to replicate this centre in all 36 states of Nigeria, we remain committed to our mission of facilitating widespread prosperity through accelerated SME growth.
